INEC Tasks Media Executives on Relevant Electoral Laws
The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC has appealed to media executives to be conversant with the relevant laws and regulations which governs the election process, especially the new electoral act, the role and centrality of the permanent voters card, bimodal voter accreditation system as well as INEC result viewing portal and to understand how results are transmitted from polling units to the portal.
Chairman information and voter education commission, Festus Okoye, made the request at a one day consultative meeting between INEC and media executives in Lagos.
Okoye, stressed that the role of media in developing and sustaining the democracy in general and the electoral process in particular cannot be over emphasized.
He appealed to the media to help build confidence in the nation’s eligible voters to come out massively in places where they are registered to vote on election days.
