Resident Doctors Call Off Strike

The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has instructed its members to end their five-day nationwide warning strike and resume work today (Monday).

The decision was made after a three-hour Special National Executive Council meeting, during which NARD agreed to review the Federal Government’s commitment to resolving the issues raised within the next two weeks.

NARD had previously signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the government to address the concerns of resident doctors.

Notably, the demands include the recruitment of clinical staff, withdrawal of a bill requiring compulsory services, infrastructural development, timely payment of the Medical Residency Training Fund, and an increase in doctors’ salaries.

The association’s president, Dr Emeka Orji, confirmed the suspension of the strike and stated that progress would be assessed at an upcoming general meeting in Lagos.

Dr Umar Usman, the association’s Publicity and Social Secretary, emphasised the importance of reviewing the commitments made by the government and monitoring the progress on the raised issues.
