Teammate Extols Late Okwaraji 33 Years After Death

Former Eagles defender Adeshina has brought back memories of a foremost player, Samuel Okwaraji who slumped at the National Stadium in Surulere, Lagos during the World Cup qualifier against Angola on August 12, 1989 and was certified dead after he was rushed to the hospital by stadium medical personnel.

Adeshina says the last time he spoke with Okwaraji, he was excitedly looking forward to the game against the Angolans, and had a premonition that he would become popular globally after the match.

Adesina praised Okwaraji’s personality and how the last words he said to him will never leave him after over thirty- three years.
