WHO Warns Against Misinformation on Global Pandemic Accord

The UN World Health Organization (WHO) has cautioned against the spread of misinformation on social media and in the mainstream media about the ongoing negotiations for a new global pandemic accord.

The agency warns that false information is being disseminated, claiming that the accord will allow WHO to override national sovereignty during future outbreaks.

However, WHO Director General, Tedros Ghebreyesus, has stated that such claims are “fake news,” emphasizing that the wording and scope of any global agreement on how to tackle the next pandemic will be determined by individual countries themselves.

Ghebreyesus has also offered to discuss and explain the accord to anyone confused about its content.

Recent news reports have highlighted numerous instances of false claims made by online news sources and commentators alleging that the Biden administration is negotiating a deal that would allow WHO to “control” emergency laws in the event of another pandemic like COVID-19.

Ghebreyesus has firmly refuted these claims, stating that no country will cede any sovereignty to WHO.

In a related development, Ghebreyesus has addressed Tanzania’s first-ever Marburg Virus Disease outbreak, stating that national responders trained jointly by WHO and the U.S. Centres for Disease Control have been deployed to the affected region to conduct further investigations and provide care.
