Chelsea’s new manager, Liam Rosenior, watched from the stands as his side suffered a 2-1 defeat to Fulham at Craven Cottage on Wednesday night, in a Premier League fixture marked by controversy and late drama.
Rosenior, who replaced Enzo Maresca earlier in the week, is yet to take charge from the touchline and will make his dugout debut when Chelsea face second-tier Charlton Athletic in the FA Cup third round on Saturday.
Speaking before kick-off, the former Strasbourg coach said his team “need to hit the ground running for the rest of the season.”
However, Chelsea, still under the interim guidance of Calum McFarlane, endured a difficult evening.
The Blues were reduced to 10 men midway through the first half when Marc Cucurella was shown a straight red card for pulling down Fulham’s Harry Wilson.
Raul Jimenez opened the scoring for the hosts before Liam Delap drew Chelsea level.
Wilson later struck from the edge of the area to seal the win for Fulham.
