The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) has repatriated 13 Nigerians rescued from a human trafficking syndicate in Ghana, as authorities intensify efforts to curb irregular migration and protect citizens abroad.

In a statement issued on Sunday by the Head of Media, Public Relations and Protocols Unit, Mr. Abdur Rahman Balogun, the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of NiDCOM, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, commended the Nigerian High Commission in Ghana for facilitating the safe return of the victims.

Dabiri-Erewa also expressed appreciation to the First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, for her sustained support in providing transportation and other critical assistance during rescue operations.

According to the statement, the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) carried out profiling of the returnees as part of the standard reintegration process, while NiDCOM provided the necessary logistical support to ensure their safe arrival in their respective states.

The returnees were received on behalf of the NiDCOM Chairman by the agency’s Head of Operations in Lagos, Mr. Dele Ogunkanbi.

The rescued group comprises 11 adults and two babies aged four weeks and 16 months.

The statement disclosed that some of the women and children are currently undergoing medical treatment and receiving mental health support after being diagnosed with serious health conditions.

The repatriation exercise was led by Ambassador Adeoye, the Acting Nigerian High Commissioner to Ghana, in collaboration with relevant stakeholders and partner agencies.

Dabiri-Erewa reiterated her concerns over the increasing dangers associated with irregular migration, warning young Nigerians to be wary of unverified job offers and suspicious travel arrangements abroad.

She urged prospective migrants to seek proper guidance and verify opportunities through appropriate government channels, stressing that traffickers often exploit desperation and misinformation to lure unsuspecting victims.
