Sokoto, Nov. 14, 2021 (NAN) The National Youths Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has commenced registration and revalidation of voluntary associations in the 23 local government areas of Sokoto state.
The NYCN state Chairman, Mr Yakubu Abubakar, who inaugurated the 8-member revalidation committee on Sunday, in Sokoto, noted that the council had the statutory mandate to register and regulate activities of voluntary youth associations.
Abubakar listed the requirements from the associations to include, an application letter on headed paper, list of programmes, membership, bye-law documents and organisation’s organogram, as well as previous registration certificate.
He lamented the recent upsurge in insecurity, stressing that the situation was part of the reason to sanitize the activities.
According to him, new registration for each voluntary association attracts N5,000 while revalidation is N3,000, explaining that the charges were reduced from N10,000 and N5,000 respectively.
The chairman cautioned the committee members against extortion and partisanship during the exercise.
He said NYCN promotes productive wellbeing of youths on agriculture, ICT, Health, Climate Change, Environmental degradation and other empowerment strategies for in the state.
On their part, Hajia Hauwa Aliyu and Hajia Hauwa Ibrahim, representatives of the state Ministry of Social Welfare and Ministry of Youths Development at the event, respectively, advised the NYCN to also reach out to local government areas at all times.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Nasiru Maigori, served as the committee chairman, Mr Abubakar Dingyadi as the Secretary, while Abubakar Adindin, Farida Muhammad, Shamsudeen Umar and Sa’adatu Shagari as committee members.
The committee also had representatives from the Ministry of Social Welfare and the Ministry of Youth Development, Nigerian Security and Civilian Defense Corps (NSCDC) and Police as members. (NAN (www.nannews.ng)
