President Bola Tinubu has nominated Taiwo Oyedele as the new Minister of State for Finance, replacing Dr Doris Uzoka-Anite in a fresh cabinet reshuffle aimed at strengthening fiscal management and economic reforms.
The nomination was conveyed to the Senate on Tuesday through a letter addressed to the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, seeking legislative confirmation in line with constitutional provisions.
In the latest redeployment, Uzoka-Anite has been moved to the Ministry of Budget and National Planning as Minister of State, marking her third portfolio under the Tinubu administration.
The development signals a strategic realignment within the economic management team as the government intensifies efforts to stabilise the economy and boost revenue generation.
Until his nomination, Oyedele, an indigene of Ikaram in Akoko, Ondo State, served as Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms.
The committee spearheaded sweeping changes to Nigeria’s tax framework, including proposals to streamline tax administration, widen the tax base and improve compliance.
Oyedele, 50, is an economist, chartered accountant and public policy expert with over two decades of experience in fiscal strategy and taxation.
He began his academic journey at Yaba College of Technology, where he obtained a Higher National Diploma in Accountancy and Finance.
He later earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Accounting from Oxford Brookes University.
He further enhanced his expertise through executive education programmes at the London School of Economics, Yale University, the Gordon Institute of Business Science and the Harvard Kennedy School.
Oyedele spent 22 years at PwC, joining the global professional services firm in 2001.
During his tenure, he rose to become Fiscal Policy Partner and Africa Tax Leader, advising governments and multinational corporations on tax reforms and fiscal sustainability across the continent.
Beyond his corporate career, Oyedele is a professor at Babcock University and also serves as a visiting scholar at the Lagos Business School, where he contributes to thought leadership on public finance and economic policy.
