United Drop Points Again as Bournemouth Force 4-4 Draw at Old Trafford
Manchester United squandered the lead on three occasions as resilient Bournemouth held them to a pulsating 4-4 draw in a Premier League encounter at Old Trafford on Monday night, denying the Red Devils the chance to move up to fifth on the table.
Despite losing just once in their last 10 matches, United will be left rueing another missed opportunity at home, with head coach Ruben Amorim frustrated after his side produced arguably their most fluent attacking display since he took charge.
Amad Diallo and Casemiro were on target for the hosts in the first half, either side of Antoine Semenyo’s equaliser, to hand United a narrow advantage at the break.
However, Bournemouth turned the game on its head early in the second half as goals from Evanilson and Marcus Tavernier within seven minutes put the visitors in front and stunned the Old Trafford crowd.
United responded with renewed urgency, drawing level through a superb Bruno Fernandes free-kick before Matheus Cunha netted his second goal for the club to restore parity in the high-scoring contest.
Yet, just as in recent home draws against 10-man Everton and struggling West Ham, the Red Devils were unable to see out the game.
Eli Junior Kroupi struck with a fine finish to earn Bournemouth a share of the spoils.
The visitors could even have snatched victory in stoppage time, but David Brooks was twice denied by goalkeeper Senne Lammens.
The result extended Bournemouth’s winless run to seven matches, though the point was enough to lift them to 13th on the Premier League standings.
For United, the draw moves them into sixth place, ahead of Liverpool on goal difference, but it was another night that underlined their struggles to convert promising performances into maximum points at Old Trafford.
