The Zamfara State Government has announced that the ongoing upgrade of the Sardauna Memorial Stadium has reached 90 per cent completion.

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure, Haruna Dikko, disclosed this on Friday while inspecting the project in Gusau.

Accompanied by other ministry officials, Dikko expressed satisfaction with the progress and assured that the facility would be delivered by February.

“The stadium was dilapidated and out of use when Governor Dauda Lawal’s administration assumed office in 2023. We are committed to completing the work and opening it for Zamfara United FC and other sporting activities,” Dikko said.

He added that the stadium would also host events aimed at generating revenue for the state government.

Dikko commended the project handlers, Monimichelle Sports Company, for the quality of work and assured that the government would continue to provide necessary support to ensure timely completion.

Meanwhile, the project engineer, Terngo Williams, guided the officials on a tour of the stadium, showcasing the 1,000-seat pavilion, dressing rooms for two teams, sanitary facilities, referees’ room, medical room, and a facility for ball boys.

He also outlined ongoing works in the main bowl of the stadium, including water drainage installation ahead of the synthetic turf.

“All materials needed to complete the remaining work are already on site. We are working hard to ensure the project is completed not just on time but according to specification,” Williams said.
