The defending champions, Senegal, were eliminated in the Round of 16, while the perennial winners, Egypt, were eliminated by DR Congo. The Atlas Lions of Morocco were eliminated in the Quarter-Finals, having lost 2-0 to South Africa, to the shock of many.
