Buhari Writes National Assembly, Seeks Extension of 2022 Budget Implementation

President Muhammadu Buhari has written to the National Assembly to extend the date for the implementation of the 2022 Budget to March 31, 2022.

The letter was read at the plenary by the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajamiabila, earlier today.

The National Assembly had passed a revised budget of N17.31tn for the fiscal year 2022 following Buhari’s earlier request to make adjustments to the 2022 budget, citing the impacts of the Russia-Ukraine war on the country’s economy.

Exactly a week ago, Buhari wrote the National Assembly to approve a supplementary budget of N819bn as a result of the impact of the flood on the roads across the country.

Buhari, however, on Wednesday, wrote to the lawmakers to extend the date of the implementation of the 2022 budget from December 31, 2022, to March 31, 2023.
