The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has commended the exceptional courage and professionalism of two Alpha Jet pilots who safely ejected after their aircraft developed an in-flight emergency during a post-inspection functional check flight at the Air Force Base in Kainji, Niger State.

The incident, which occurred on Saturday, 6 December 2025, happened shortly after take-off when the aircraft encountered a sudden malfunction.

According to the NAF, the pilots displayed “remarkable composure and sound judgement” as they steered the jet away from populated areas before ejecting to safety.

Both officers are currently undergoing routine medical evaluation.

The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, praised the pilots for their “courage, discipline and professionalism,” noting that their swift actions averted what could have been a major tragedy.

“We are proud of the gallantry and quick decision-making displayed by our aircrew. Their actions prevented loss of life and reflect the high standards we uphold in all our operations,” he said.

Air Marshal Aneke has directed the immediate constitution of a Board of Inquiry to determine the cause of the emergency and recommend preventive measures.

The NAF also lauded the coordinated response of its Search and Rescue teams, Fire and Crash Response units, and medical personnel who rapidly secured the scene and ensured the safety of the aircrew.

“The prompt and professional response of our personnel once again demonstrates the dedication and teamwork that define the Nigerian Air Force,” the statement added.

Reassuring Nigerians of its unwavering commitment to safety, the NAF reaffirmed that it maintains strict operational and safety standards in line with global best practices while working tirelessly to safeguard both its personnel and the wider public.
