The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has responded to recent concerns raised in a media report titled “NAHCON In Dilemma As Low Turnout Threatens 2024 Hajj Preparations.”
Emphasizing its preparedness, NAHCON, through an Assistant Director, Fatima Sanda Usara, highlighted Chairman Malam Jalal Ahmad Arabi’s commitment to ensuring a smooth 2024 Hajj season.
Arabi stressed timely arrangements to protect depositors’ interests and urged state-level Hajj managers to promptly remit deposits.
He assured the public of NAHCON’s readiness to accommodate any number of registered pilgrims meeting the N4.5 million Hajj deposit by the December 31 deadline.
Responding to calls for deadline extensions due to farmers awaiting harvest, he emphasized fairness while considering the interests of those who have already paid.
Contrary to perceptions of a dilemma, NAHCON disclosed that 60% of Hajj preparations are complete, noting the challenge lies in determining the exact number of paid pilgrims, prompting the Commission’s advocacy for a Hajj Savings Scheme for better control and planning.
Addressing concerns about slot allocation to Private Tour Operators, NAHCON clarified that this process is unrelated to the December 31 remittance deadline. The earlier suspension of approved companies was solely due to grievances, with the Commission remaining committed to transparency in the allocation process.
NAHCON expressed appreciation for media support, encouraging stakeholders to seek accurate information. The Commission assured open communication and transparency in its operations.
