The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria, NAHCON, announced on Tuesday that the Federal Government has granted an extension for the 2024 Hajj registration deadline, now set to January 31, 2024.
This decision follows concerns raised by religious clerics, State Pilgrims’ Welfare Boards/Agencies/Commissions, State Governors, and other stakeholders.
Fatima Sanda Usara, Assistant Director of Public Affairs, stated that the extension aims to offer an additional opportunity for individuals to participate in the sacred pilgrimage.
“The overwhelming request for extension from various religious communities underscores the significance of ensuring accessibility to a broader spectrum of the faithful eager to embark on the spiritual journey of Hajj,” said Usara.
NAHCON expresses confidence that, with the support of sister agencies, the total cost of the 2024 Hajj will be determined before the new deadline. The extension allows new registrants to participate and enables those needing to balance payments to do so by the end of January.
She added that it is crucial for intending pilgrims and stakeholders to note that the Saudi Arabian Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has set February 25 as the end date for signing all contracts, marking the conclusion of payments into IBAN accounts.
Citizen FM reports that with this extension, NAHCON has approximately a month to finalize payments of all Hajj deposits into its IBAN account for the 2024 Hajj.
