The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has taken steps to address the inadequate services provided to Nigerian pilgrims during the recent Hajj, said Mousa Ubandawaki, the Deputy Director of Information and Publication in a statement on Wednesday.
In a meeting held at the Commissions Ummul-judd office in Makkah, Saudi Arabia, NAHCON, State Muslim pilgrims welfare boards, and Tour Operators discussed the matter and resolved to set up an eight-member committee to review the services offered to Nigerian pilgrims at the Masha’ir, the holy sites visited during the Hajj.
Ubandawaki noted that the committee, headed by Dr. Abdullahi Rabiu Kotangora, the Secretary of NAHCON, was inaugurated by Alh Nura Hassan Yakasai, the Commissioner in charge of Policy Personnel, Management, and Finance (PPMF), on behalf of Alh Zikrullah Kunle Hassan, the Chairman/CEO of NAHCON.
The members include: Alhaji Abdulkadir Oloyin, Assistant Director, in the Office of the Chairman, Mallam Ishaq Jae of the Saudi Liaison Office.
Other members are the Secretary of Adamawa, SPWB, Director of FCT Pilgrims welfare board as well as the Secretary of Lagos Pilgrims Welfare board. AHUON is to be represented by the Vice Presidents of Lagos and Kano Zones respectively.
The main objective of the committee is to thoroughly review the services provided to Nigerian pilgrims during the 2023 Hajj in Muna and Arafat.
Their task includes assessing the services offered by the Company of Muttawwifs for African Non-Arab countries, examining the contracted services, identifying services that were not provided or poorly rendered, and seeking compensation or refunds where necessary.
Additionally, the committee is expected to recommend strategies to mitigate such issues in future Hajj exercises.
One of the committee’s crucial responsibilities is to aggregate complaints received from NAHCON, State Muslim pilgrims welfare boards, and Tour Operators regarding the services at the Masha’ir.
The collected information will be submitted to the Deputy Minister of Hajj and Umrah for appropriate action.
