Russia, Africa to Hold Ministerial Meeting in Cairo

Russia and African countries are set to deepen their partnership as foreign ministers from both sides meet in Cairo for the second ministerial conference of the Russia–Africa Partnership Forum.

The meeting, holding on African soil for the first time, will assess the state of bilateral relations and outline strategies for expanded cooperation in areas such as security, energy, trade, education and infrastructure.

Established in 2019, the Forum serves as a platform for political dialogue and economic cooperation, with previous summits held in Sochi in 2019 and St Petersburg in 2023.

Russian Foreign Minister, Sergey Lavrov, said the partnership is rooted in historical ties dating back to Africa’s decolonisation, adding that Russia remains committed to practical projects that promote industrial growth, agriculture, infrastructure and education across the continent.

According to Russian officials, trade turnover between Russia and Africa exceeded $27 billion last year, while cooperation has also expanded in humanitarian support, education and healthcare.

The Cairo meeting is expected to strengthen ongoing initiatives and set the stage for the next Russia–Africa Summit scheduled for 2026.
