US Sanctions Zimbabwe President’s Son, Mnangagwa Jr

The United States has sanctioned Emmerson Mnangagwa Jr, the son of Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa, ahead of an African leaders summit in Washington, DC.

The sanctions against Mnangagwa Jr. were announced in a press release issued by the US Treasury Department Monday, along with sanctions against three other individuals and two entities.

The sanctions come just one day before US President Joe Biden hosts an African leaders summit in Washington, DC, to discuss issues such as climate change and food insecurity.

Around 50 African leaders are expected to attend.

The US Treasury claimed that those sanctioned on Monday were linked to businessman Kudakwashe Tagwirei and his Sakunda Holdings company.

Tagwirei is accused of using his wealth to cultivate relationships with people he does not know.
